Mother's Grieving Heart

Book: Crystal, …Mother's Grieving Heart

On November 10, 2000 Maria's daughter Crystal was killed in a terrible accident. Maria went through what no mother in the world wants or expects to go through.

Go To Site…

To moms who have suffered the loss of a child:

When Maria was faced with the death of her child, all the books she read provided the same answer. This answer was not good enough. She began to write poetry. Her poetry was a way for her to find the answers to the terrible crisis that she could not find in any book. Through writing her poetry, Maria became closer to God and she found during her journey, that God's mercy is a sufficient answer to any crisis or devastating situation.

Those poems are now available in the book, "Crystal, A Mother's Grieving Heart" published by Lorton Valley Star. It is available in Occoquan at the Coffee House of Occoquan and at Attic Treasures. It is also available online from Maria's web site.

Valentine Love Boxes

Each February Sydenstricker United Methodist Church in Springfield reaches out to its college and military youth with Valentine Love Boxes. The tradition began years ago when the high school youth group baked and mailed cookies to members who had graduated in June and were now away at college. Over time it has grown to include all the youth of college age and those who have chosen military service.   Home baked cookies, candy, hot chocolate, breakfast bars, nuts, chips and other snacks are donated by the congregation.  In addition to the treats, each box contains a Valentine from the youth and a note from the pastors.  Volunteers will gather to assemble this year’s Valentine Love Boxes on February 7th and they will be mailed to arrive in time for the holiday.  Notes from students and soldiers who have received boxes in previous years attest to the fact they were indeed ‘touched’ by the out ‘reach’ of love and caring from home.

Sydenstricker
Recognized for 100 Years of Service

The Board of Supervisors recognized one hundred years of service to the local community by Sydenstricker United Methodist  Church recently with a plaque.  It culminated a year of celebration of the Centennial by the congregation which included:  100 Bibles donated to Epiphany Ministries; l00,000 meals prepared for Stop Hunger now; l00  new books donated to the church library.  Many former pastors returned to preach one more time and to fellowship at a luncheon following.   An elegant silk wall hanging was created by the women  and the men provided and hoisted  a white cross on the steeple of the sanctuary.   The  Springfield church has commited to build on the foundation of the last hundred years as it continues to serve the local community and beyond.

Journey To Bethlehem at Aldersgate

Journey to Bethlehem, free continuous guided tours through the “city” of Bethlehem were enjoyed on the front lawn of Aldersgate Church. For years, people all over the community have come to celebrate the Christmas story through actors, animals and narration at Aldersgate’s annual Living Nativity and Living Bethlehem. This year, the “Journey to Bethlehem” program is a little bit different; with a new script that puts more focus on the story and journey leading up to the birth of Christ, and includes more characters from the Bible.   The event included live animals, live music, and free guided tours and refreshments. For more information about Aldersgate Church, visit www.aldersgate.net

The bands contributing were CrossRoads, Bluegrass Gospel Express, Sonrise and All4Hym. The groups merged to close the show with Silent Night. The New Hope Church Auditorium was an excellent venue for this as it is acoustically architectued more like a small concert hall with lights and good sound and even video production.
