Belmont Bay and Kanes Creek Paddle Epeditions Experience Mason Neck State Park like never before! Come explore the natural diversity and history of Kane’s Creek and Belmont Bay from a flat water canoe or kayak. Kayak trips Saturday and Sunday mornings 9am 11:30pm and canoe trips Saturdays 4-6:30. 8 Deal With a Foreclosure Crisis, Thursday, May 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The presenter will be Kathleen Jones, housing services specialist and certified foreclosure prevention counselor from the Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development. This free event, part of the Springfield Exchange Human Services Community Lunch Series, will be at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8304 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield.

9 LCAC/Envirosolutions spring golf tournament, Lorton Community Action Center invites all Redskins fans to come play golf with the Hogettes! Boss Hogette Mikey T will be leading a foursome of players. This is a chance to show your support for LCAC. Registration for the year's tournament is just $125 per player or $450 for a team of four. This includes all green fees, a cart, snacks and a gourmet luncheon at Madigan's Waterfront in Occoquan, VA (and a chance to meet the Hogettes). A portion of the cost is tax-deductible. 17 Nature Walks at Meadowood Recreation Area, Saturday start at 8:30 a.m. in front of the main BLM office located at 10406 Gunston Road, Lorton, and generally run 1 - 2 hours, depending upon your own interests and capabilities. Come enjoy majestic hardwood forests, open meadows, streams, and ponds and watch for wildlife, identify spring flowers, and see what else is happening as the seasons change led by experienced naturalists with the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia. Spring and Summer bring tree frogs and toads, butterflies and dragonflies, migrating birds, fox cubs, fawns, and rare wildflowers. Sturdy walking or hiking shoes and binoculars are recommended. 20 "Anatomy of a Civil War Pension File." Tuesday 1:00 p.m. the Mount Vernon Genealogical Society will feature a presentation by Claire Prechtel-Kluskens. This lecture will show the types of documents found in typical Civil War pension files and discuss their usefulness in genealogical research. 2 Concert Kaleigh Elizabeth Acord Monday June 2 7:00 p.m. with pianist Audrey Andrist at The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, 201 South Washington Street, Alexandria, Free to the public. For her third solo appearance at The Lyceum, Ms. Acord’s program will include the Brahms Sonata in F minor for viola and piano and the Suite No. 2 for unaccompanied viola by J.S. Bach. Kaleigh Elizabeth Acord is a 16-year-old violinist, violist and composer of Lorton. Ms. Acord successfully auditioned this Spring for the second year into the Charles Castleman Quartet Program (of the Eastman School of Music), which accepts only 36 world-class string players.
Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist is the 1994 first prize winner of the San Antonio International Keyboard Competition, and was presented in a cross-Canada solo recital tour as winner of the Eckhardt-Gratnatté Competition. She has appeared as soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Juilliard Orchestra
